As of December 30, 2011, the content of this community was exported to DreamWidth. Please see the announcement post for more information.

A community to discuss the privately-held, for-profit fanfiction archive FanLib.com, which operated from February, 2007 - August, 2008. Membership is open to all. All members may post.

With only two weeks warning, FanLib closed its fanfiction archive, and deleted all member-contributed content, on August 4, 2008.

This community will stay open for discussion of the lasting fallout: the fate of FanLib members, the effect of FanLib on future corporate fanfiction ventures, etc.

As of January, 2009, it appears FanLib sold itself (servers and all) to Disney, which re-opened it as Take180. See the disney buyout tag for more information.

This community uses tags, not memories, to categorize content. View all of the tags here.

Please be considerate of members and use the LJ cut tag for images which are not work safe, or exceed 500px in height or width.

Posts which are not on-topic will be deleted without warning by the moderators.

Acceptable topics include:
  • Personal experiences with FanLib, both positive and negative
  • Discussions about FanLib
  • News about FanLib
  • Copyright and fair use as they apply to fanfiction
  • Parodies and humor based on FanLib. Pink dude <3 Blue guy!
Not acceptable:
  • Introductory posts with no other content.

If you are a former FanLib member promoting a community for other ex members, an introductory post is allowed. The largest known community for ex members is Fan Nation.

They represent a massive group of literate, well-educated women who spend an incredible amount of time online.

I'm puzzled as to why exactly you think this will make money.

Every so often, as if acting out some formulaic movie plot, a bunch of big-city suits get lost in the wilderness of the Internet, and bad things happen.

I just realized that Dr. Jenkins is gonna get a book outta this. :-)
